"The great thing in the world is not so much where we stand as in what direction we are moving.” Oliver W. Holmes
Movement is important for the sake of… you name it … water, air, planets, people, animals, cars, even slugs… maybe not rocks or statues, but definitely churches. In essence, movement leads to progress. I think most people are in favor of progress, it’s the changes they don’t like.
“Movement, progress and change, hmmm. What is Pastor Larson getting at?” Okay, here goes…
We’re moving, changing & progressing to new worship times beginning May 25, 2008.
Worship times will be 9 am and 10:30 am every Sunday. Here’s why …
- To establish ONE common fellowship time, so people at both services can interact.
- To create two fairly equal services. Special things fell on the 10:45 am while 8 am was left out. It was difficult to gather people to do special things for the early service (<50)>200).
- Bringing the two worship services closer together (in theory) will help UMCL function a little more like one church.
- To create more room for growth in both services.
It is not certain what worship will look like. Will one have the organ while the other has guitar? Will there be piano, praise band, choir, high school choir, quartet, square dancing, hard rock, etc…? We’ll establish them much the same as they are now and build them up as God desires. Some will attend 9 am, while others may want 10:30 am. The services will reflect their own personalities in due time, as God leads us. The key is not to demand what we want personally (like going to a show), but to go where we see God leading us. 40 Days of Prayer is helping us own the importance of talking and listening to God. Worship is no different. A good way to pull this apart is to demand, without prayer, our personal preferences. Worship should be a time to give praise to God, ourselves to service, and our love to each other. So, attending 9 am or 10:30 am is up to each of us. What we will see in worship should be up to God through us. Prayerfully consider how you would worship God and serve to His glory at either service. Thank you for your patience and understanding with this change. Jason Larson Lead Pastor UMCL
